Men's and Women's Cross Country teams receive All-Academic honors by USTFCCCA
NEW ORLEANS, La. – The UW-Platteville men’s and women’s cross country teams received All-Academic team honors by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
NEW ORLEANS, La. – The UW-Platteville men's and women's cross country teams received All-Academic team honors by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Announced on February 14, 2019, teams receiving this award competed a team at the NCAA Regional meet and have a minimum grade point average of 3.10 on a 4.0 scale. In all NCAA Division III cross country, 393 teams were honored.
Contributing to the academic success of the team, six individuals were honored with individual All-Academic honors. Nearly 680 student-athletes received the USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, including the Pioneers' Kyle Herbrand, Zach Lee, Janelle Ferguson, Caitlyn Ifft, Johanna Meister, and Katie Wardinski.
To receive individual All-Academic honors, student-athletes must achieve a grade point average of 3.30 on at 4.0 scale and finish in the top 25 percent of the NCAA Regional meet.
Senior Zach Lee (Franklin, Wis) is graduating with a degree in software engineering. Lee finished in second place at the NCAA Regional meet, continuing his final season of cross country at the NCAA National Championships where he placed ninth. Senior Kyle Herbrand (Dane, Wis.) is graduating with a degree in animal science. At the NCAA Regional meet, Herbrand took 51st place among 253 runners.
Katie Wardinksi (West Allis, Wis.) ran for 17th place at the NCAA Regional meet, qualifying to the NCAA National Championships where she took 71st place out of 279 runners. Wardinksi will graduate with a degree in environmental engineering.
Johanna Meister (Darlington, Wis.) ran for 18th place at the NCAA Regional meet, and later finished off her final season of cross country at the NCAA National Championships as well. Meister finished in 96th place of 279 at the national meet. Meister is majoring in mechanical engineering.
Senior Janelle Ferguson finished her cross country career at the NCAA Regional meet, finishing the race in 47th place among 255 contestants. Ferguson graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering. Junior Caitlyn Ifft (Fairbury, Ill.) is majoring in agriculture business and animal science. At the NCAA Regional meet Ifft placed 60th.
The UW-Platteville men's and women's cross country teams, as well as these six individuals exemplify the meaning of a NCAA Division III student-athlete, executing the academics and tackling the cross country course.
