Cross Country hosts Pioneer Gender Equity Invite
The UW-Platteville cross country teams hosted the Pioneer Gender Equity Inivational on Saturday, where the women’s races two minutes and 40 seconds after the men so both genders finished at the same time.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville cross country teams hosted the Pioneer Gender Equity Inivational on Saturday, where the women's races started two minutes and 40 seconds after the men so both genders would finish at the same time.
In a very light field the men's team had its five scorers finish in the top-eight, good for 21 points. Senior Joel Walden won the race with a time of 26:22, edging out sophomore Ian LaMere by two seconds. Sam Poser finished the 8k race with a time of 26:41, while Ethan Shanks crossed the finish line in 27:24. Dan LaCroix rounded out the Pioneers' top-five with a time of 27:33.
The women's team posted a perfect score of 15, beating Edgewood (49) and MSOE (84). Senior Danielle Kunkel paced the Pioneers with a time of 22:22, followed by Kiera Depies, who was exactly two minutes behind Kunkel (24:22). Andrea Knutson scored three points with a time of 24:48, as Chelsey Heiden was right on her heals with at time of 25:01. Ashlynne Wampfler rounded out the top-five with a time of 25:30.
The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 18 at the Drews/Neubauer Invitational, hosted by UW-La Crosse.
