Cross Country competes at Brissman/Lundeen Invite
UW--Platteville men’s cross country team finished in 9th-place out of 39 teams, while the women’s squad placed 18th out of 35 on Friday at the Brissman/Lundeen Invitational.
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's cross country team finished in 9th-place out of 39 teams, while the women's squad placed 18th out of 35 on Friday at the Brissman/Lundeen Invitational.
The men's team didn't send their full squad, but the Pioneers top two performances came from seniors Joel Walden and Matt Smaga. Walden placed third, finishing the 8k course in 24:58, and was 16 seconds behind first-place Robert Morris' Mizael Carrera. Smaga crossed the finish line in 25:58, good for 36th-place. The third best Pioneer was Dan LaCroix with a time of 27:09, while freshman Walker Rynes posted a time of 27:16. Freshman Kyle Herbrand clocked a time of 27:42.
Senior Danielle Kunkel finished in third out of 498 individuals and scored two points for the Pioneers with a time of 21:47. She was in the lead group during the whole race and was just three seconds behind winner Kristen Bonsor from NCAA Division II Lewis. Junior Andrea Knutson was the Pioneers' second best performer with a time of 24:17 and finished in 89th-place. Fellow junior Kiera Depies finished the 6k course in 24:38, while Ashlynne Wampfler clocked a time of 25:38. Junior Teagan Seneczko crossed the finish line in 25:49.
The Pioneers will compete at the Blugold Invitational on Friday, Oct. 3.
