LaMere wins Warhawk Invite
Ian LaMere took home the individual title to lead the UW-Platteville men’s cross country team to a first-place finish at the Warhawk Invitational, while the women’s team placed second on Saturday in Whitewater, Wisconsin.
WHITEWATER, Wis. -- Sophomore Ian LaMere took home the individual title to lead the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's cross country team to a first-place finish at the Warhawk Invitational, while the women's team placed second on Saturday in Whitewater, Wisconsin.
LaMere cruised through the 8K course in 25:39, for his first ever win and beat UW-Whitewater's Dawson Miller by 10 seconds.
The Pioneers' next four runners all finished in the top-10 with seniors Sam Poser (26:09), Joel Walden (26:12) and Matt Smaga (26:18) placing fourth, fifth and sixth respectively. Classmate Ethan Shanks rounded out the Pioneer top-five with a time of 26:21, good for eighth-place.
On the women's side, junior Andrea Knutson posted her best ever 6K time, crossing the finish line in 24:23, good for sixth place. Fellow junior Kiera Depies wasn't to far behind Knutson, posting a time of 24:31 to finish in eighth-place. Sophomore Chelsey Heiden placed 15th with a time of 25:44, while junior Ashlynne Wampfler was right on her heals, crossing the finish line at 25:49. Junior Allison Wells was the Pioneers final scorer with a time of 26 minutes and finished in 19th place.
The Pioneers will take next weekend off and won't return to action until Sept. 26 at the Brissman/Lundeen Invitational hosted by Augustana (Ill.).
