Pioneer Volleyball falls to Cornell and Wartburg
The UW-Platteville volleyball team was swept by 22nd-ranked Cornell College, 3-0 (28-26, 25-21, 25-13) and then by Wartburg College, 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-19) on Friday at Mount Vernon, Iowa.

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville volleyball team was swept by 22nd-ranked Cornell College, 3-0 (28-26, 25-21, 25-13) and then by Wartburg College, 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-19) on Friday at Mount Vernon, Iowa.
Against the 22nd-ranked Rams, sophomore Jennifer Schmidt was the only Pioneer with double digit kills with 10, followed by LeeAnn Mizgalski with nine kills. The Pioneers totaled a game-high with 17 kills in the first-set but fell 28-26. The Rams took the second-set 25-21 then won 25-13.
UW-Platteville committed 20 errors against Wartburg, which proved to be the difference since the Knights posted nine errors. The Pioneers did record 39 kills and were led by Mizgalski with 18. Senior Stephanie Kirchner tallied nine kills and only had one error for a .364 hitting percentage. Freshman Lindsey Decker and Haley Jansen both recorded 12 assists. Wartburg edged out the Pioneers; 25-20, 25-19, 25-19.
The Pioneers travel to UW-Whitewater for the first round of the WIAC Tournament at 7 p.m.
