Lombardi, Smith Named To All-Region Team
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Two members of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women’s soccer team earned United Soccer Coaches DIII All-Region honors on Tuesday, with Arianna Lombardi being named Second Team and Lydia Smith being named Third Team.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Two members of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team earned United Soccer Coaches DIII All-Region honors on Tuesday, with Arianna Lombardi being named Second Team and Lydia Smith being named Third Team.
In her first year with the Pioneers, Lombardi proved to be one of the best offensive players in the WIAC. The junior paced the conference in several categories, including goals (10), points (27), shot (73), and shots on goal (36). The Bourbonnais, Illinois native tied for third in the conference with seven assists and scored four-game winning goals, including the goal to send the Pioneers to the WIAC Championship in a 2-1 win over UW-Eau Claire.
Smith provided UW-Platteville with another strong offensive threat with six goals and four assists across 18 games. The junior was sixth in the WIAC with 16 points and ranked inside the top 10 in both shots (46) and shots on goal (22). The Troy, Illinois native set a new program record for career assists with 20 on her final assist of the season October 14 at UW-Stout.
