Pioneers power past Kohawks

Freshman Jenna Gravitt tallied three assists in the game to grab a share of the program record for assists in a single match. UW-Platteville improved to 4-1-0 overall while the Kohawks fall to 0-5-0 overall.
The Pioneers scored their first two goals off corner kicks. UW-Platteville pulled ahead in the 4th minute off a goal by sophomore Anna Spindle and then doubled the lead in the 22nd minute as sophomore Lauren Lodico headed in another. Gravitt registered the assist on both goals. UW-Platteville added insurance before the break as freshmen Katherine Ohlwein and Sarah Conroy set up sophomore Vanessa Peterson to take a 3-0 lead.
In the 58th minute, Gravitt set up for another corner and dropped it in to sophomore Lydia Smith who fired off a shot. Coe blocked the shot, but was unable to secure it before freshman Maddi Spencer-Strong drilled one in to make it 4-0. The Pioneer's scoring frenzy would conclude with sophomore Alyssa Peterson scoring the fifth goal of the game off a cross from Gravitt in the 65th minute. Coe eventually got on the scoreboard in the 86th minute off a penalty kick due to a handball in the box.
UW-Platteville concluded with a 27-5 edge in shots and 14-3 on target. The Pioneers also held an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks. Smith led the Pioneers in shots taken with seven and three on goal. Lodico, Alyssa Peterson and Spindle each recorded three shots.
Senior Emma Ball tallied two saves in 62 minutes in goal while Juliana Penniston faced the penalty kick.
UW-Platteville will return to action on Friday, Sept. 16 when they travel to Simpson College where the Pioneers will take face Nebraska Wesleyan in a neutral site game at 7:30 p.m.
