Six Pioneers strike to shutout Lakeland
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Just 24 hours after Saturday’s 1-1 tie with Simpson College, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women’s soccer team returned to Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium and this time shutout Lakeland University 6-0 on Sunday afternoon. Six different Pioneers found the back of the net in the victory and UW-Platteville improves to 3-0-2 overall on the season.

Davis Pioneer Stadium and this time shutout Lakeland University 6-0 on Sunday afternoon. Six different Pioneers found the back of the net in the victory and UW-Platteville improves to 3-0-2 overall on the season.
The win marks the first time since the 6-4 win over St. Norbert in 2018 where the Pioneers tallied six goals in a game.
"We are really coming together as a family and we are playing well as an entire group," said Director of Soccer Sam Koenig. "We must keep this going into our next games!"
With three goals in the first half and three in the second frame, freshman Alyssa Peterson started the scoring with a goal in the 31st minute assisted by sophomore Danielle Culotta.
A goal by freshman Bryanne Pinkowski from junior Caitlin Gorge in the 40th minute was followed by a successful penalty kick by senior Leah Kubasta in the 43rd minute to give a 3-0 advantage at the half.
Freshman Vanessa Peterson scored off a pass from freshman Lydia Smith in the 48th minute to extend the Pioneer lead to 4-0. Freshman Lilly Rausch scored unassisted in the 63rd minute and a pass from Kubasta to Culotta in the 71st minute rounded out the scoring on the day.
UW-Platteville totaled 32 shots to Lakeland's six. Senior Amber Lueder tallied a game-high seven shots with all on goal.
Junior Onalee Erickson recorded two saves in the win while counterparts Erin Tomlinson and Faith Turley each recorded five saves apiece.
UW-Platteville will take a day off before returning to action on Tuesday, Sept. 14 for a 7 p.m. game against the Coe College Kohawks in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
