RIVER FALLS, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team ended its season with a road win over the UW-River Falls Falcons Saturday in River Falls. The Pioneers won 2-1 in overtime to finish the season at 7-10-1 and 2-5 in the WIAC conference.
UW-Platteville fell behind early as the Falcons took a 1-0 lead on a goal from Kayla Windingstad at the 10-minute mark. The Pioneers responded quickly, as Anna Sobal netted her second goal of the year, and tied the game at 1 under 13-minutes into the game. The teams then slowed down and the defenses were able to hold their opponents scoreless for the remainder of regulation. At the end the second half the score remained 1-1, and the game went to overtime.
The teams played even for the first 9 minutes of the overtime period and the game appeared to be heading to a second overtime until UW-Platteville senior Julia Divita scored the game winning goal. The goal came with only 50 seconds remaining in the first overtime, and was Divita's third goal of the season. The Pioneers were then able to hold the Falcons for the remainder of the period, and won the game 2-1. The loss dropped the Falcons to 7-9-2 on the season, and 3-4-1 in the WIAC.
