OSHKOSH, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team earned a 2-1 road win at UW-Oshkosh on Saturday night.
With the win the Pioneers (8-8-1, 3-3-1 WIAC) clinched a spot in the six-team WIAC Tournament. This was the second time in the last 20 meetings that the Pioneers defeated the Titans (10-7-1, 6-2 WIAC).
The Titans outshot the Pioneers 13-1 in the first half, but UW-Platteville's Jade Jandt made six saves to keep it a scoreless game at halftime. Senior Sarah Eck broke the scoreless game on a penalty kick, and then less than three minutes later she put the Pioneers up 2-0 off a header in the 53rd-minute. UWO's Amanda Baalke made it a one-goal game when she scored in the 65th-minute. The Pioneers managed to hold off the relentless attack from the Titan offense, winning 2-1.
"The team knew this game would keep us alive in the conference race and they came out fired up," said head coach Allison Stringer. "We lost one our leaders earlier this week to a broken leg, and the team were determined to get this win for her."
