The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team dropped a heartbreaking 1-0 decision to UW-Eau Claire on Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Stadium.
The Pioneers (2-9, 0-5 WIAC) held a potent UW-Eau Claire offense that averages two goals a contest off the scoreboard until Katie Richter scored as she picked up a loose ball and went to the upper corner of the goal in the 69th minute. The goal was enough for the Blugolds to emerge victorious and improve to 8-4-1 overall and 5-1 in the WIAC.
UW-Eau Claire challenged Pioneer goalkeeper Julie Divita throughout the first half. However, the freshman answered the challenge with seven saves in the first 45 minutes to keep the game scoreless. Divita finished the contest with 11 saves.
The Pioneers' Melissa Dunlavy and Emily Ryan each had opportunities in the second half; however, UW-Eau Claire Nina Behrenbrinker saved both opportunities to preserve her second shutout of the season.
The next contest for UW-Platteville is next Saturday, Oct. 13, when they host UW-Oshkosh at 1 p.m. at Pioneer Stadium.
