A valiant effort by University of Wisconsin-Platteville goalkeeper Julie Divita came up short as the Pioneers dropped a 1-0 decision to host UW-River Falls on Saturday.
The Pioneers (2-7, 0-3 WIAC) faced a potent UW-River Falls attack with a 26 to 10 advantage in shots. Divita made 16 saves in the loss for UW-Platteville. The 16 saves are the most by a UW-Platteville goalkeeper since a 19-save effort by Kaitlyn Wiedeman at UW-Eau Claire on September 23, 2009.
The Falcons (5-4-1, 2-0-1 WIAC) got the game-winning goal in the 23rd minute when Cassie Stang scored her fifth goal of the season. Stang had a game-high six shots in the win for UW-River Falls.
UW-Platteville will play its next three games at the friendly confines of Pioneer Stadium, starting with a contest on Wednesday, Oct. 3 vs. UW-Whitewater at 7 p.m.
