The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team closed out its Labor Day weekend trip with a 6-3 win over host College of Staten Island on Saturday.
The Pioneers (2-0) found the back of the net five times in the first 45 minutes en route to a 5-1 halftime lead. The last time that UW-Platteville had scored five first half goals were when they faced Finlandia, last year, on October 23 on the way to a 10-1 win.
UW-Platteville forward Sarah Eck had the third multi-goal game of her career, scoring the go-ahead goal in the 27th minute and with 10 seconds left in the contest. Eck and the Pioneers outshot CSI by a 28 to 11 margin in the win.
Joining Eck in the goal scoring efforts was Briar Trotter, who scored her first collegiate goal for an early 1-0 lead in the seventh minute, plus, Anna Strasser, Corey Daehling and Melissa Dunlavy. While the offense was potent, it was an aggressive defense that controlled the home team and its offense. Goalkeepers Molly Bender and Jade Jandt each played a half, making a save and three saves, respectively.
After Trotter put UW-Platteville ahead at the 7:20 mark went she took a short pass from Lindsey Harms to the right side of the box from 18 yards out for the early 1-0 advantage. Just under a minute later, the home team equalized with a long shot.
However, the Pioneers retaliated with a four goal onslaught, starting with the first goal of the day by Eck, who converted on a corner kick set up by Katie Viney in the 27th minute.
Next, the Pioneers will return to the area to face Loras on Wednesday, September 5th at 7:30 p.m.
