The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to host UW-Whitewater on Wednesday evening to begin WIAC play.
The Pioneers (4-4, 0-1 WIAC) gave up a goal in each half of the loss and was out shot by a 13 to 4 margin. UW-Whitewater (4-3-1, 1-0-1 WIAC) went ahead in the 11th minute when Laren Nashleanas scored her fourth goal of the season.
UW-Platteville nearly got on the board in 4th minute when a Melissa Dunlavy shot sailed high and over the Pioneer goal. The shot by Dunlavy was the lone attempt in the first 45 minutes for the Pioneers.
The Pioneers nearly got an equalizer in the opening minutes of the second half when an Anna Strasser shot was saved by Warhawks' goalkeeper Jordan Myers. UW-Whitewater stretched its lead to 2-0 when Christina Tooren scored in the 51st minute.
In the win for UW-Whitewater, Emily Gerber led a Warhawk attack with a match-high four shots. Myers made two saves for her second shutout of the season.
Next, the Pioneers are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 24, when they host UW-River Falls at Pioneer Stadium at 5 p.m.
