The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team started the Allison Sanyi-Stringer era with a 1-0 win over Coe on Thursday afternoon in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
The Pioneers (1-0) got the decisive goal when Sarah Eck found the back of the net on her second shot of the afternoon in the 89th minute. Eck and UW-Platteville outshot the Kohawks by a 15 to 3 margin in the win. Melissa Dunlavy led an aggressive UW-Platteville attack with a game-high four shots. Goalkeeper Molly Bender made a pair of saves for the shutout and the second shutout of her career.
Coe (0-1) was held to just three shots, two of which on goal in the contest. The two teams played a scoreless first 45 minutes and remained 0-0 until the gamewinner by Eck.
