Rinehart wins title in home invite
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Lucius Rinehart claimed the 285 title in the loaded Super 8 Invitational Saturday in the Pioneers’ Williams Fieldhouse.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Lucius Rinehart claimed the 285 title in the loaded Super 8 Invitational Saturday in the Pioneers' Williams Fieldhouse.
This season-opening tournament featured four teams with three finishing the 2017-18 season in the top 25. UW-Platteville finished 25th, Loras 5th, and Chicago 23rd. The tournament also featured the Spartans of the University of Dubuque.
Rinehart advanced to the final round by route of a 4-2 major decision over Loras' Payne Johnson and then 2-1 in the tie-breaking match with Chicago's Will Hare. In the first place round, Rinehart pinned Dubuque's Robert Melise in 4:40.
UW-Platteville's Beau Harrier advanced to the first place match at 133 pounds, but lost in a 12-10 decision to Chicago's Louis Demarco. Chase Katzenmeyer also advanced to the final round at 141 pounds but fell 8-1 to Kevin Kelly of Loras. UW-Platteville's Jake Carpenter (165 pounds) and Grant Wedepohl (174 pounds) each won the third place match in their respected weight class. Also finishing in the top five for the Pioneers included Issac Wiegel (125), Caleb Radtke (133), Scott Arneson (133), Alexander Strueder (149), Trevor Harsh (149), Alec Potter (157), Devan VanderBush (165), and Tyler Pasker (197).
The Pioneers will return to action on Thursday, Nov. 15 when they open conference play against UW-La Crosse in the Pioneers' Williams Fieldhouse at 7 p.m.
