Pioneers top Augustana

UW-Platteville won four straight matches, including two via first-period pins, to pull away from host Augustana and beat the Vikings 28-13 Friday night in Rock Island, Illinois.

Isaac Brosinski began the run with a 10-4 victory over Jacob Poole at 165 pounds. Jon Goetz pinned Frankie Faasen in 1:57 at 174, and Kevin Gschwendtner went even quicker at 184, needing just 55 seconds to pin Clem Martin. Grant Wedepohl moved up to 197 and finished the run with a 9-0 decision over Trystyn Schoonover. 

In earlier matches, Beau Harrier won at 125 via forfeit, and Scott Arneson won a tightly-contested 133-pound match, beating Brendan Gould.

The Pioneers beat the Vikings for the first time since 2010 and improved to 3-2 in dual meets this season. They have a quick turnaround before their next dual, wrestling at UW-La Crosse Tuesday at 6:30 p.m in a matchup that was postponed last week due to weather.
