PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- First year head coach Mike DeRoehn is set to lead his 2014-15 squad, as the University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team opens the season at the Knox College Invitational on Saturday.
The Pioneers return 13 letter winners and welcome 15 newcomers. UW-Platteville's top returners are national qualifier Cole Ferguson and regional place-winners Dylan DeShane and Mason Bohm.
Ferguson earned second team all-WIAC honors and took third at the West Regional meet at 125. He posted a team-best 19-6 record and finished third at the MSOE Invite and the Will Abele Invitational. Ferguson will look to become the 10th Pioneer to be a two-time national qualifier.
DeShane posted a 19-13 record last year at 184-pounds. He led the Pioneers with seven pins and was a win away from becoming a national qualifier.
Bohm placed fifth at 141 pounds at the 2014 West Regional, and has moved up to 149 pounds this year. He finished the year 16-11 with five pins. He took first at the Knox Invite, earning WIAC Wrestler of the Week honors.
The Pioneers begins the home portion of the schedule on Friday, Nov. 14, when they host UW-La Crosse at 7 p.m.
