MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team competed in the NCAA Division III Wrestling West Regional on Saturday, hosted by Augsburg. Sophomore 141 pounds Tyler Henken earned the Pioneers only spot to nationals.
Henken earned a first-round bye, which put him just two victories away from a spot to nationals. In the quarterfinals, the Hebron, Ill. native pinned Lakeland's Marcus McCauley at the 3:59 mark. Henken was able to get an early lead over Augburg's Tom Kuehn and was able to ride out Kuehn for a 9-2 victory and earning a spot to nationals. In the finals, Henken fell to UW-Eau Claire's Nathaniel Behnke 7-0.
"Tyler put himself in great position to make it to nationals and won two big matches putting himself in the regional final," said head coach Chris Walter. "Tyler had a really good day and it is great to see him make it to nationals."
Freshmen 125 Cole Ferguson, 133 pounds Mason Bohm, 165 pounds Mike Uliana and Josh Dust all placed sixth in their respective weight classes.
