Pioneers Fall to No. 5 UW-La Crosse
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville fell to No. 5 UW-La Crosse, 39-9, Thursday night at Williams Fieldhouse.

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville fell to No. 5 UW-La Crosse, 39-9, Thursday night at Williams Fieldhouse.
The Pioneers only victories came from sophomore Mack Drees at 133 and senior Abe Granziano at 197. Drees earned UW-Platteville's first points of the dual with a 5-1 victory, while Granziano won by injury default.
The Pioneers travel to Milwaukee for the MSOE Invitational on Saturday at 9 a.m. in Kern Center Arena.
MATCH-BY-MATCH RECAP
125 – After a scoreless first period the Eagles' Izzy Balsiger earned the first point in the start of the second period on an escape. Pioneers' Cole Ferguson tied the match up on an escape to start the third. Balsiger earned a take down with 50 seconds left in the final period to take a 3-1 lead. Ferguson escaped the take down to be down, 3-2 with 37 seconds left but was unable to get the win in a last second takedown.
133 – UW-Platteville's Mack Drees scored the first points of the bout on a takedown in the first period. To start the second period, Drees took a 4-0 lead on a reversal. UWL's Connor Carstens recorded a point on an escape but Drees took the Pioneer's first win 5-1 with the riding time bonus point.
141 – Eagles' Adam Sheley pinned Jose Collad with 1:14 left in the first period.
149 – UWL's Dylan Shaffer pinned Gunnar Melstrand with 1:44 left in the third period.
157 – La Crosse's JR Lewis tallied a takedown and grabbed a 3-0 lead in the start of the second on an escape. The Pioneers' Peter Crocco drew an escape to be down 3-1 near the end of the second and brought the match within a point on an escape to start the third period. Lewis expanded his lead on a take down with less than 20 seconds left in the third period to earn the 5-2 victory.
165 – In the closing seconds of the first period, UWL's Kevin O'Brien grabbed a 2-0 lead on a takedown. UW-Platteville's Randy Wade brought it to a one-point deficit on an early escape but O'Brien recorded a takedown with just over a minute left in the second period. In the third period, O'Brien took a 8-1 victory on an escape and a takedown.
174 – UWL's Grant Miller pinned Nathan Schmitz at the 1:35 mark.
184 – The Eagles' Eric Twohey tallied a pair of takedowns and three-point near falls before pinning Dylan Deshane at the 6:35 mark.
197 – The Pioneers' Abe Granziano earned a win over Alastair Keys by injury default.
HWT – La Crosse's Billy Mayer took down Mike Harman before pinning Harman with 27 seconds left
in the first period.
