T.J. Wunnicke Continues Domination En Route to Individual Title at the 2012 Pete Willson Wheaton Invitational
Four first period pins and a 5-3 win in the quarterfinals propelled University of Wisconsin-Platteville junior T.J. Wunnicke to individual champion honors at 133 pounds on Saturday at the 2012 Pete Willson Wheaton Invitational.
The Dodgeville, Wisconsin native extended his winning streak to 13 in the process. For the season, Wunnicke is now 27-3 overall and he has posted 23 of the wins by a first period pin. For his efforts at the tournament, Wunnicke was also recognized as the Most Outstanding Wrestler and Most Pins in Least Time.
In Friday's preliminaries, the Pioneers' Matt Scott started the day with a 15-5 major decision at 197 pounds. In the second round, he posted an 8-2 victory to advance to the quarterfinals. He dropped his quarterfinals contest and lost in the wrestlebacks due to a medical forfeit.
Next, the Pioneers will host its final dual of the season when they host UW-Oshkosh on Thursday night at Williams Fieldhouse at 7 p.m.
