Pioneers fall to Duoss, Stout

UW-Stout all-American Kelsey Duoss scored 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Blue Devils past the Pioneers 83-67 Saturday in Williams Fieldhouse.

The Blue Devils, ranked sixth in this week's D3hoops.com poll, improved to 6-1 overall and 1-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while the Pioneers fell to 4-3, 0-1.

The contest was the first WIAC Game of the Week, tape-delayed by Fox Sports Net. The replay will be shown statewide Dec. 10 at 3 p.m. on Fox Sports Net North (channel 20 in Platteville.)

UW-Stout held a 37-24 halftime lead and extended it to 49-31 with 16 minutes to play. The young Pioneers, still playing without injured sophomore starter Lisa Grantman, cut the lead to 10 twice at 53-43 and 55-45, but each time Duoss answered with an inside basket. She made 9 of 10 shots from the field to pace Stout, who shot 56.3 percent in the game.

The Pioneers, in their home opener, had four players in double figures, led by Liz Tesch with 17. Vanessa Nemitz came off th ebench to score 14, while Lisa Wubben had 12 and Liz Wisdom 11. The Pioneers shot 56 percent themselves in the second half to keep the pressure on the Blue Devils.

UW-Platteville plays at UW-La Crosse Wednesday at 7 p.m.
