Klaas leads Pioneers to third win

November 20, 2006

Freshman Brianna Klaas poured in 25 points, leading undefeated UW-Platteville to a 73-56 victory at Augustana, Ill. Monday night.

Klaas, a guard from Lancaster, scored 16 points in the first half, helping the Pioneers to a 36-32 lead at the break. The Pioneers then outscored the Vikings 13-2 to begin the second half, putting UWP up by 15. The Pioneers then held a double-digit lead for the rest of the night.

Klaas made nine of 14 shots from the field, including 4-8 three-point shots, and had five steals defensively. Sophomore Lisa Wubben, who missed all but one game last year because of an injury, continued her hot start with 12 points and eight rebounds, while senior Liz Tesch had 10 points for the 3-0 Pioneers.

Maegan Skahill led the Vikings (0-3) with 11 points.

The Pioneers compete in the Mississippi River Challenge Friday and Saturday at Clarke College. UWP faces Dubuque Friday and Loras Saturday. Both games are at 1 p.m. and precede the Pioneer men's games against those same schools.
