Pioneer Women open WIAC playoffs
Platteville, Wis.- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women’s basketball team will open the 2021 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Championship (presented by Culver’s) tonight at UW-Eau Claire. The Pioneers finished as the fourth seed out of the East Division with a 2-6 record, while UW-Eau Claire is the top seed from the West Division with a record of 7-1. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Blugolds are the top offensive team in the conference, averaging 73.5 points a game. The Pioneers average 62.9 points a game and allow 68.6. Maiah Domask leads the WIAC in rebounding (11.1) and is fourth in scoring (15.4). Domask has recorded six double-doubles in eight games. Coach Kelly McNiff is in her second season at UW-Platteville and has a career record of 14-19.
UW-Eau Claire's Katie Essen leads the WIAC in scoring, averaging 16.6 points a game. Jadelyn Ganski leads the Blugolds in rebounding with 6.6 boards a game. Tonja Englund is in her 21st season as the head coach at UW-Eau Claire. Englund has a career record of 352-203.
The winner of the contest will move on to face the winner of UW-Stout (West Division #3 seed) and UW-Whitewater (East Division #2 seed) on Wednesday.
