Pioneers drop final home game of season

The Pioneers scored the first six points of the game before the Blugolds went on an 18-8 run to finish the first quarter. Down 21-27 with five minutes remaining in the first half, UW-Platteville's Amber Williams went on a personal 9-0 run that spanned a little over a minute and a half.
Just over a minute later Kassie Hansen hit a layup to give the Pioneers their largest lead of the game at 32-27, but the Blugolds scored 8 of the final 10 points of the half to take a 35-34 lead.
After a 34 point first half, UW-Platteville was only able to put together 17 points in the second. They pulled within seven of the Blugolds early in the fourth quarter, but were unable to make up any more ground.
Williams had a career high 13 points and tied a career with 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Allison Prestegaard added 12 points and 7 rebounds for the Pioneers who fall to 6-17 overall and 2-10 in the WIAC.
Four scored in double digits for UW-Eau Claire who move to 16-7 overall and 8-4 in the WIAC. Caryn Donahue topped all scorers with 16, and Anna Graaskamp recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
The Pioneers finish their regular season schedule with two road games, starting with a 7 p.m. matchup at UW-Whitewater on Wednesday, Feb. 14.
