PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- Alyssa Krajco and Stacy Clark combined for 41 points to led the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball team past UW-Stevens Point, 67-61, on Wednesday night on Bo Ryan Court.
Krajco netted a game-high 24 points, while Clark was a rebound away from recording a double-double as she tallied 17 points and nine boards. Rachel Cropp made 4-of-6 and was a perfect 3-of-3 from the free throw line to total 12 points.
The Pioneers have now beaten the Pointers three-straight times in the regular season for the first time in school history. UW-Platteville swept UWSP last year for the first time since 1995.
Free throw opportunities were a tale of two halves as Stevens Point had 17 attempts to the Pioneers' one free throw in the opening half. The tide switched in the second half with the Pioneers making 19-of-25 free throws and UWSP converting 6-of-7 attempts.
The Pointers used 24 bench points and made 10-of-17 from the charity stripe to take a 33-31 lead at the half.
The Pioneers came out of the break and scored the first seven points of the second half to take a 38-33 lead. The Pointers battled back to regain a 44-41 lead with 13:02 left to play.
UW-Platteville then forced six turnovers to propel a 17-2 run, which was capped off by a three-pointer by Clark to give the Pioneers their largest lead of the game, 58-46, with 4:13 remaining.
A three-pointer by UWSP's Jamie Destache cut the Pointers deficit back to single digits. Stevens Point then whittled the Pioneer lead down to four points, 61-57 with 1:11 left to play.
The Pioneers used solid defense and made enough free throws down the stretch to seal the 67-61 victory.
UW-Platteville scored 12 points off of 12 UWSP second half turnovers to overcome a tough half of shooting at just over 30 percent.
UW-Platteville improves to 10-4 and 3-2 in WIAC play, while the Pointers settle to 7-6 and 2-2 in league action.
The Pioneers travel to UW-River Falls on Saturday to take on the Falcons at 3 p.m.
