Women's Basketball stumbles at UW-Eau Claire

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball team was setback by UW-Eau Claire, 69-58, on Wednesday night in Zorn Arena.
Junior Stacy Clark led the Pioneers with a game-high 18 points and was 6-of-7 from the free throw line. Alyssa Krajco and Melissa Carmody each contributed seven points.
The Blugolds had four players score in double figures, and were led by Teenie Lichtfuss with 15 points. Abby Midtlien added 12 points, followed by Courtney Lewis with 11.
The Pioneers scored the game's first five points and had a 10-6 lead just under four minutes into the contest. The Blugolds then used a 10-0 run to take a 16-10 lead midway through the first half. UWEC didn't allow the Pioneers to get any closer than four points in the final 10 minutes and took a 37-26 advantage into halftime.
Clark made the first basket in the second half to cut the deficit to nine, 37-28, but the Blugolds answered to push their lead back to double figures. UWEC lead by as many as 19 points. The Pioneers fought back to cut the deficit back to nine with less than 40 seconds remaining.
UW-Platteville moves to 6-9 in WIAC play and with a win on Saturday the Pioneers will secure a spot in the WIAC tournament for the first time since 2008.
The Pioneers will end the regular season on Saturday with a trip to UW-River Falls. Tip off is set for 3 p.m.
