Women's Basketball upsets No. 24 UW-Stevens Point
The Pioneers beat the Pointers for the first time since 2004 and the first time in the regular season in Stevens Point since 1995.
STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball defeated 24th-ranked UW-Stevens Point, 67-63, Wednesday at Berg Gym. The Pioneers beat the Pointers for the first time since 2004 and the first time in the regular season in Stevens Point since 1995.
Junior Alyssa Krajco lead the Pioneers with 17 points, while senior Melissa Carmody and junior Stacy Clark each added 16 points.
The Pointers' Alyssa Olp lead all scorers with 18 points, followed by Myrnada Tyler with 16 points.
The Pioneers used a 9-2 run in the last five minutes of the first half to take a 32-27 lead into halftime.
UW-Platteville took its largest lead of the game of nine points, 45-36 with 15:08 left to play. The Pointers then chipped away at the Pioneers' lead and eventually took a 56-54 advantage with just over six minutes to play. In the final three minutes of the game the Pioneers out scored UWSP 10-3 to earn the historic 67-63 victory.
The Pioneers will host UW-Superior on Saturday at 1 p.m. on Alumni Day, and look to take sole possession of fourth-place in the WIAC.
