MENOMONIE, Wis. – A big second-half by UW-Stout setback the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball team, 71-57, on Saturday night in Johnson Fieldhouse.
With the game all knotted up at 9-9 with just under 11 minutes left in the first-half the Blue Devils managed to take a 22-16 lead at the 4:42 mark. The Pioneers finished out the half on a 14-6 run, tying the game up at 28-28 apiece at intermission.
The Pioneers took a quick five-point lead, 33-28, in the opening two minutes of the second-half, but UW-Stout responded with six unanswered, 36-35, with 16:36 left to play. In the final 15 minutes of play it was all UW-Stout after the game was tied at 38-38. The Blue Devils went on a 19-3 run and taking their largest lead of the game, 57-41, with 6:42 left to play. The 16-point deficit was too much for the Pioneers to overcome in the final six minutes as UW-Stout earned the 71-57 victory.
The Pioneers' sophomore Alyssa Krajco lead the team with 14 points and eight rebounds. Senior Claire Poad was the only other Pioneer to score in double figures with 12 points.
The Blue Devils recorded players in double digits with Sami Schoeder scoring a game-high 18 points. Kayla Windt and Haley Froehlich each added 12 points.
UW-Platteville wraps up the regular season with three straight home games. The Pioneers face off with UW-Whitewater on Wednesday at 7 p.m. on Bo Ryan Court.
