No. 16 UW-Stevens Point Tops Pioneers
STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Career highs from junior McKenzie Forseth and sophomore Alyssa Krajoc weren’t enough for the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women’s basketball team as the Pioneers fell to 16th-ranked UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday night in Berg Gym.
STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Career highs from junior McKenzie Forseth and sophomore Alyssa Krajco wasn't enough for the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball team, as the Pioneers fell to 16th-ranked UW-Stevens Point, 79-60, on Wednesday night in Berg Gym.
Forseth and Krajco each scored game-highs and career-bests with 16 points. Forseth nailed 3-4 from beyond the arc and Krajco was a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line to go with her six field goals.
Liz Althoff led the Pointers with 15 points, while Sam Barber added 13 points and grabbed a game-high seven rebounds.
The Pointers were in control for nearly the entire game, only allowing the Pioneers to lead for just 45 seconds in the first-half. UW-Stevens Point used a 14-2 run to end the half taking a 45-25 lead into intermission.
The Pioneers couldn't overcome their first-half deficit and only got as close as 16 points, 58-42, with 13:20 left in the game. The Pointers ended the contest outscoring UW-Platteville 32-8 in the paint. The bright spot for the Pioneers came on the offensive glass rebounding UWSP 17-10, and outscoring the Pointers 15-9 on second chance points and 17-9 off turnovers.
UW-Platteville travels to Menomonie, Wis. on Saturday to square off with UW-Stout. Tip is set for 6 p.m. in Johnson Fieldhouse.
