Women's Basketball Grabs First Road Victory at Brooklyn College

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball never allowed Brooklyn College to lead, earning the Pioneers first road victory of the season, 49-39, on Saturday afternoon at West Quad Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Junior Kim Wellnitz led the Pioneers with 15 points and eight rebounds, followed by sophomore Alyssa Krajco with eight points and three assists and rebounds. Wellnitz and Krajco combined for 50 percent (10-20) from the floor while the team shot just over 38 percent. The Pioneers held the Bulldogs to 21.7 percent shooting (15-69) and didn't allow a BC player to score double-digits. Nicole Francomano led BC with nine points, while Tiffany Thompson dominated the boards with six offensive and seven defensive rebounds.
The Pioneers took their largest lead of the first-half of 10 points, 27-17, with 3:45 left till the break. The Bulldogs managed to cut UW-Platteville's lead to four, 27-23, at halftime. The Pioneers kept the Bulldogs to 21.6 percent shooting (8-37) and shot just under 45 percent from the floor (12-27).
Brooklyn College brought its deficit to within a point, 30-29, with 14:37 left to play. UW-Platteville stopped BC's come back with a three-minute 11-2 run taking a 41-31 lead. Once UW-Platteville earned the double-digit lead the Pioneers never let the Bulldogs get within two possessions, and held BC scoreless in the final five minutes of the game.
The Pioneers wrap up their trip to the Big Apple when they take on Baruch College on Sunday in New York City at 2 p.m.
