No. 25 UW-River Falls Rallies to Defeat UW-Platteville, 58-56
No. 25 UW-River Falls scored the final six points of the game en route to a 58-56 win over the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon at the Kerges Center in River Falls.
The Falcons (16-4, 8-3 WIAC) were trailing 56-52 when the Pioneers' Kim Wellnitz hit a jumper with 2:31 left to play. UW-River Falls kept UW-Platteville off the scoreboard, Jessie Van Wyhe made four of four free throws and Brittany Gregorich hit a pair of jumpers down the stretch to complete the come-from-behind win.
For UW-River Falls, three Falcons also were in double figures as Alise Holst scored a game-high 19 including three 3-pointers. She was joined by Nikki Guhr, who added 15 and 13 points, respectively.
The Pioneers (8-12, 4-7 WIAC) went on an 8-0 run midway through the second half to take a 52-50 lead with 3:56 to play. The lead by UW-Platteville was its first since the 18:04 mark of the final 20 minutes. In the defeat, Liz Lawinger led the Pioneers with 14 points. She was joined in double figures by Kim Wellnitz and Ashley Henry, who added 12 and 10 points, respectively.
UW-Platteville will next be in action on Wednesday night, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. when they host UW-Stevens Point at Bo Ryan Court.
