VanHout and Eichler cap off the NCAA DIII Outdoor Championships with All-American honors
Geneva, Ohio - The Pioneers have produced two All-Americans per day at the NCAA DIII Outdoor Track and Field Championships, and day three was no exception. Cade VanHout and Justin Eichler earned All-American status in their respective events, 100m dash and hammer throw.
Geneva, Ohio - The Pioneers have produced two All-Americans per day at the NCAA DIII Outdoor Track and Field Championships, and day three was no exception. Cade VanHout and Justin Eichler earned All-American status in their respective events, 100m dash and hammer throw.
VanHout qualified to the finals of the 100m dash with a time of 10.62 seconds, the ninth time to qualify. He ran against four other WIAC competitors in the final heat, Jaylen Grant, Robert Ogbuli, and Aaron Richardson from UW-Oshkosh and Sam Blaskowski from UW-La Crosse.
VanHout finished in sixth place in the finals, running a consistent 10.62 seconds. Blaskowski won the heat with a time of 10.40 seconds.
In the men's hammer throw, Eichler placed fifth with his best throw of the day being the first throw of the series. He threw 58.54m (192-0) and maintained position in fifth place throughout finals. Also placing on the podium was fellow WIAC competitor Jacob Bugella of UW-Stout, who took third place with a throw of 59.90m (196-6).
The Pioneer men finished the NCAA DIII Outdoor Championship weekend with 18 points, placing 14th among 74 teams represented. The Pioneer women scored 12 points and placed 26th among 64 teams represented at the championships.
Winning the overall women's team score, Loras took home first with 55 points and UW-La Crosse was runner-up with 51 points. UW-Eau Claire men's team won the championships with 73 points, and John Carroll was runner up with 48 points.
The UW-Platteville track and field program capped off the 2022 season, and is looking forward to the next wave of fresh Pioneers to enter the scene. Who knows what the 2023 season holds for the Pioneers!
