Pioneers Qualify Five Athletes to Nationals
Platteville, Wis. – The UW-Platteville track and field team has qualified five athletes to compete at the 2018 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
From the men's track and field team, four athletes will be competing. Senior Walker Rynes qualified in the 5,000m run. Rynes currently holds the ninth fastest time in the 5,000m, 14:22.36 (converted from 14:31.59).
Junior Cody Faust will be competing in the heptathlon after qualifying at the Wartburg Last Chance Meet. Faust scored 4926 points, establishing a new school record, and is eighth on the national heptathlon list.
After his school-record-tying performance at the WIAC Indoor Championships, sophomore Noah Steiner has qualified in the men's high jump. Steiner's personal best jump of 2.08m (6-9.75) places him tied for eighth on the national performance list.
Freshman Rodrick McMiller has qualified in the men's long jump. McMiller jumped 7.27m (23-10.25) at the WIAC Indoor Championships. He is tied for the fourth longest jump among all NCAA division III men's long jumpers.
For the women's track and field team, Rachel Beuthin will be competing in the women's shot put. Beuthin threw a qualifying mark at the Grand Valley State University Bob Eubanks Open. Her season best mark of 13.84m (45-5) places her at No. 11 going into the NCAA Indoor National Championships.
The NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Championships will be held in Birmingham, AL at the Birmingham Crossplex, hosted by Birmingham-Southern College. The championships will begin Friday, March 9 and conclude Saturday, March 10.
