Walker Rynes named Track Performer of the Meet
Following the WIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, UW-Platteville's Walker Rynes was named the men's Track Performer of the Meet. The Track and Field Performer of the Meet is voted on by conference coaches. Rynes, a senior at UW-Platteville, competed in the 3,000m run as well as the 5,000m run over the two day meet.
In the 3,000m run, Rynes finished in second place, crossing with a time of 8:30:16. This time set a new personal best for the senior, with his previous next fastest time in the 3,000m run at 8:33.16. Nationally, Rynes' performance at the WIAC Indoor Championships in the 3,000m places him at No. 28.
Also finishing in second place during the 5,000m run, Rynes posted a time of 14:44.28. His personal best time in the 5,000m came earlier in the season at The Showcase hosted by the University of St. Thomas on Feb. 9 where Rynes posted a time of 14:31.59. In national rankings, Rynes' 5,000m performance at The Showcase is currently No. 9.
The men's Field Performer of the Meet was named to Sam Elsner of UW-Stout. UW-La Crosse men's head coach Josh Buchholtz was named the men's Coach of the Year. Sarah Glidden of UW-Eau Claire was named the women's Track Performer of the Meet. Amanda Wiebke of UW-La Crosse and Kaitlin Mallek of UW-Stout were named Co-Field Performers of the Meet. UW-La Crosse women's head coach Nickolas Davis was named the women's Coach of the Year.
