Ian LaMere runs fastest 10,000m of the year while school records go down at Augie
Two school records went down over the weekend while the Pioneers competed at Augustana. Senior Heptathlete Megan Marotz finished day 1 of the Heptathlon with a school record in the 200m while teammate Rachel Beuthin broke the shot put record. Ian LaMere traveled to UW-LaCrosse to compete in the 10,000m and came away with the fastest time of the year.

Senior Heptathlete Megan Marotz finished day 1 of the Heptathlon with a school record in the 200m while teammate Rachel Beuthin broke the shot put record. Ian LaMere traveled to UW-LaCrosse to compete in the 10,000m and came away with the fastest time of the year.
Megan Marotz crossed the finish of the heptathlon 200m in 25.31. The previous school record was held by Amber Williams with a time of 25.40. Of the seven events, Marotz achieved five personal bests. She finished second overall with a score of 4525 points and is currently ranked fourth in Division III and leads the WIAC Conference.
Beuthin broke the shot put school record by over a foot with a toss of 13.81m (45-3.75). The record was previously held by Lynn Colby with a 13.41m (44-0) effort done in 1976. Beuthin currently sits eight on the national honor roll and second in the conference.
At UW-LaCrosse Ian LaMere competed in the 10,000m. He won with a Division III leading time of 29:18.92. After crossing the halfway point at 14:55 he took control of the race and finished the second half in 14:23. Last week LaMere won the UW-Platteville 5,000m Invite in 14:20.21.
Other top performances at Augustana came from the multi eventers. Krysta Parson and Cody Faust walked away with big improvements in the Heptathlon and Decathlon respectively. Parson improved her personal best score by 361 points to 3946, currently the third best mark in the conference. Faust accomplished seven out of ten personal bests to improve his personal best score to 6181 points. His score ranks fourth in the conference and 15th in the national honor roll.
Zach Lee continues to drop his personal best in the 1500m. Lee dominated his heat and crossed the finish in 3:56.77. His time earned him a fifth place finish overall.
Cole Shurbert-Hetzel finished fifth in his first ever 10,000m with a time of 32:05.35. Teammates Mitchell Frager and Isaac Schuetz followed close behind in 32:15.26 and 32:17.02 respectively.
Kyle Whaley moved into second place in the shot put with a final throw of 15.94m (52-3.75).
Devan Montgomery clocked the fastest time for a Pioneer this season in the 400m. She crossed the finish in third place with a time of 57.95. Katie Wardinski finished fourth in her debut 10,000m with a time of 39:26.07.
The Pioneers will be competing at the UW-Whitewater Drake Alternative meet on Saturday while a small squad will compete at the Drake Relays on Friday and Saturday.
