Whaley and Ehlen Highlight Final Qualifying Weekend.

Kyle Whaley headed into Saturday's the final qualifying meet not ranked in the top-15 of shot putters that will get to compete in the NCAA Championships next weekend. Whaley wasn't having it, he made sure he was going to participate in his third indoor national meet in a row. After qualifying to the finals in Saturday's shot put, Whaley threw the mark that will get him there. Whaley tossed the shot 16.42m (53-10.5) to crack the top-15 into the No. 14 spot.

Brittany Ehlen was also on best form as she continued to improve on her school record in the pole vault. Ehlen cleared 3.61m (11-10) before attempting a national qualifying mark of 3.76m (12-4). Although not successful, Ehlen gave the best attempt of the field by getting her body over the bar but hitting it on the way down. Her performance will give her confidence as she heads to the outdoor season looking to improve on her conference finish and a spot at the national meet.

The men's 4x400m relay of Alec Burcham, Tonie Johnson, Greg Stribbling, and Wyatt Thompson improved their time and maintained their No. 7 national ranking. The foursome ran a time of 3:18.69, less than a half second from the school record, to guarantee their participation at next week's National Championships.

Matt Dwyer jumped over 5 meters for the third weekend in a row. Dwyer won the pole vault in 5.01m (16-5.25) cementing his No. 5 ranking heading into the national meet.

UW-Platteville hosted a final qualifying meet of their own on Friday. Chelsey Heiden won the 5,000m run with a time of 17:28.34, a personal best of 13 seconds. The time moved Heiden up to the No. 25 spot in the national rankings.

The final list of qualifiers will be revealed on ncaa.org at 8am Monday morning. The NCAA Championships will be hosted by North Central College on March 10-11.
