STANDFORD, Ca. - Ian LaMere proves to be one of the greatest distance runners in Division III history.
LaMere broke the Division III all-time 10,000 meter record at the Stanford Invitational Friday night. LaMere won the second section of the 10,000 meter race in 28:38, besting second place by 17 seconds. LaMere pulled away from the field around the 6,000 meter mark and went after the record. LaMere closed the second half of the 10,000 meters in 14:05, a mark that would put him in the top-10 of all-time for the 5,000 meters. The second half of the race was LaMere's fastest 5,000 meters ever as his current 5K school record stands at 14:22.
With his time, LaMere would have finished 9th in section 1 which featured unattached, club and professional athletes. LaMere was the fastest NCAA athlete of the day, finishing 15 seconds faster than the top Division I runner.
LaMere, the defending Division III Cross Country and 10,000 meter national champion, will be racing again at home on April 15 in his 5,000 meter season opener.
