WIAC Record and Wins Highlight Day 2 of WIAC Championships
The men’s and women’s Track and Field teams competed in day two of competition at the WIAC Indoor Championship on Saturday.
OSHKOSH, Wis. - The men's and women's Track and Field teams competed in day two of competition at the WIAC Indoor Championship on Saturday.
The men's team finished in 5th place with 77 points, half a point ahead of UW-Oshkosh's 76.5. Perennial winners UW-La Crosse topped the team places with 166.5 points.
Dan Arnold began the day for the Pioneers with a school, facility and conference record in the 60 meter hurdles. After misjudging the first hurdle in Friday's preliminary, Arnold came back strong to finish in 7.99 seconds. Former Pioneer TJ Valley held the previous conference record at 8.08 seconds along with UW-Whitewater's Marcus Smith.
Matt Brendemihl finished strong in the triple jump moving from eigth to third place in the final round of the event. Brendemihl finished the day with a 46-2.75 (14.09m) jump.
The men finished the day storming around the track in the 4x400 meter relay. The foursome of Alec Burcham, Adam Lange, Darren Hudziak, Wyatt Thompson finished a strong second and improved their season best time to 3:19.51, currently 10th in the Division III performance list.
The women's team finished in 6th place with 58 points. Winning the women's team championship was UW-La Crosse with 162 points.
Amber Williams continued her domination in the field events. After winning the long jump and finishing second in the high jump on friday, Williams won the triple jump with a leap of 39-4.5 (12.00m).
Williams came back at the end of the day to lead off the 4x400 meter relay. Joining Williams were Amanda Milne, Devan Montgomery, and Bri Iwans. The baton crossed the finish in a season best time of 3:58.02, good enough for 5th place.
