LA CROSSE, Wis. – A select few University of Wisconsin-Platteville track and field athletes competed at the UW-La Crosse Open on Friday.
The women's 4x100-meter relay team, Krysta Parson, Kelsey Reed, Jessica Jentz and Amber Williams, highlighted the Pioneers' performance, setting a new season best with a time of 49.58. Williams also broke her own long jump record by a quarter of an inch (18-9.25), finishing in second. She is now eighth in the national list and in line to compete at the NCAA Division III Championships on May 22.
On the men's side, the Pioneers preformed well but didn't improve on their season best marks. Sophomore Matt Brendemihl finished third in the triple jump, leaping 13.81 meters. Patrick Kessenich and Austin Lloyd placed fourth and fifth respectively in the 110-meter hurdles. Joel Walden posted a time of 14:50.62, finishing fourth in the 5000-meter run.
A select few Pioneers will have one last chance next week to set a national qualifying mark.
