Pioneers compete at 3 Midwest compeitions Saturday

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville had athletes spread across the Midwest Saturday, competing in Des Moines, Iowa, and Hillsdale, Mich.
Hillsdale, Mich. – Pioneer all-American Ian LaMere, the lone UW-Platteville representative at the Gina Relays, did the team proud late Friday night, placing fifth in the 10,000-meter run.
LaMere's time of 29:51.68 was just four seconds off second place, and it broke the 2007 school record of 30:03.02 by Tyler Sigl.
Des Moines, Iowa -- In the prelims of the 4x100-meter shuttle hurdle, the team of T.J. Valley, Brent Schmidt, Austin Lloyd and Patrick Kessenich finished fifth with a time of 1:00.52, and missed making the finals by less than a second.
Dubuque, Iowa -- A large portion of the Pioneers were at the Loras Open in Dubuque, Iowa.
On the women's side, Krysta Parson won the 100-meter dash with a 12.81-second performance. Megan Marotz took fifth in the event (13.11) as well.
In the 400-meter dash, Lynea Axelson (58.42) and Kelsey Reed (59.36) placed first and second, respectively.
Emily Kjos won the javelin, blowing out the competition with a 129-05 throw, more than 17 feet longer than the second-place throw.
Amber Williams took second in the triple jump with a 38-03.25 leap, breaking Maria Kastner's 18-year-old school record of 38 feet. Williams now holds in the UW-Platteville indoor and outdoor triple jump records.
Three Pioneers finished in the top six of the 800, as Ashlynne Wampfler (2:23.86), Allison Wells (2:25.96) and Olivia Bukowski (2:27.27) placed third, fifth and sixth, respectively.
Axelson, Reed, Williams and Wyss teamed up for the 4x400-meter relay, placing second in 3:57.19, just 0.2 seconds off the leaders.
In the high jump, Iserman's and Mary-Katherine Kladar's 5-01.25 performance was good for second, while Wyss placed fifth with a 4-11.50 clearance.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Jessica Jentz, Parson, Williams and Reed placed third with a 49.81-second performance, just 0.66 seconds off the winners.
Caitlin Thomson and Stephanie Wyss placed in the top five in the 100-meter hurdles, as Thomson took fourth (15.76) and Wyss finished fifth (16.10).
Parson also finished fifth in the 200-meter dash (27.34), while teammates Alyssa Iserman (27.56) and Megan Rouer (27.72) took sixth and eighth, respectively.
In the pole vault, Caitlin Hare tied for sixth wth a 10-02 clearance.
Megan Martoz (15-11.50), Kaliann Bauer (15-11), Wyss (15-10.25) and Emily Kjos (15-10.25) took fifth, sixth and tied for seventh in the long jump, respectively.
On the men's side, Jason Henkins won the 400-meter dash with a 50.12-second performance, while Greg Stribling placed second just 0.11 seconds behind.
In the 4x400, Tim Laursen, Brad Jurewicz, Stribling and Hankins teamed up to take first (3:20.52).
Daniel Poh finished second in the javelin (178-06), while T.J. Valley finished fourth (172-11).
In the 800-meter run, Adam Lange took second with a time of 1:54.64.
Joel Walden (4:02.81) and Michael Peterson (4:05.68) took second and third, respectively in the 1,500-meter run.
Matt Wubben finished third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:14.52, while Matt Brendemihl took third in the triple jump (45-02.50). Darrell Simms (44-05.50) also took fourth in the triple jump.
Ace McCarty tied for third in the high jump with a 6-03.25 clearance, while Marshall Trajkovski and Jared Bradfish tied for third in the pole vault with a 15-03.75 leap.
The team of Jason Foster, Stribling, Sean Kirby and Laursen placed fifth in the 4x100 relay with a time of 43.34 seconds.
In the shot put, Kyle Whaley (47-09.75) and Jon Petrie (47-05.75) took fifth and seventh, respectively. Whaley also finished third in the hammer throw (153-08) and sixth in the discuss with a throw of 137-01.
Trevor Whitehead took sixth in the 100-meter dash in 11.12 seconds.
