Men's Track wins Washington U. Invite
The UW-Platteville men's track and field team took first at the Washington University Invitational, while the women's team finished 12 on Saturday in St. Louis, Mo.
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's track and field team took first at the Washington University Invitational, while the women's team finished 12th on Saturday in St. Louis, Mo.
The men's squad scored 75 team points and collected 19 points on Friday from their javelin throwers. Junior Dan Poh won the event with a mark of 185-05, while senior T.J. Valley threw 173-00 for third-place. Sophomore Garrett Riggs took sixth with a toss of 160-05. Also on the first day of competition, sophomore Matt Brendemihl claimed triple jump title with a leap of 45-09.75, while freshman Darrell Simms placed in sixth (44-09.50).
Senior Jared Bradfish continued his solid season on Saturday, as he finished second in the pole vault, clearing 15-09. Freshman Matthew Dwyer had a very busy and productive day, finishing fourth in the pole vault (15-03) and sixth in the long jump (21-01.50).
Freshman Kyle Whaley rounded out the men's top field performers with a fifth-place finish in the shot put (48-04.50).
Junior Jason Henkins crossed the finish line in 1:55.43 in the 800 meters, good for second-place. In the hurdle events, junior Austin Lloyd placed third in 110-meter hurdles (15.06) and senior Patrick Kessenich finished fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (54.81).
Sophomore Caleb Mertens posted a time of 22.14 in the 200-meter dash to place eighth.
On the women's side, Emily Kjos threw the javelin 125-03 on Friday, good for fourth-place.
Then on the final day of competition, sophomore Alyssa Iserman cleared 5-03 in the high jump, which was good for second-place.
Rookie Amber Williams is coming off two all-American performances in the indoor season. In her first appearance in the outdoor schedule, she was about five inches away from setting a new school record in the long jump. Williams jumped 17-03.50, which was good for fourth place.
The Pioneers will return to action on Saturday, April 5 at the Wartburg Invitational.
