LaMere, Williams highlight Pioneers’ first day at track Nationals
The UW-Platteville men’s and women’s track team will have at least one All-American each after the first day of the NCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championships.
LINCOLN, Neb. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's and women's track team will have at least one All-American each after the first day of the NCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championships.
Ian LaMere, a sophomore from Green Bay, Wis., earned All-American honors in the men's 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:21.87, which was good for sixth in the event. LaMere repeated his All-American performance in the 5,000 from last season. LaMere will have the chance to earn his third All-American award tomorrow, as he will run in the 3,000-meter race, which is scheduled for 4:25 p.m.
Amber Williams, a freshman from Milwaukee, Wis., staked her claim as an All-American in the women's long jump, as she took eighth in the event with a 5.52-meter leap (18-01.50). Williams will also have the opportunity to add another All-American to her credit in the triple jump, which is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
Jared Bradfish, a senior from Schofield, Wis., took 10th in the men's pole vault with a final clearance of 4.60 meters (15-01.00).
Senior T.J. Valley posted a time of 8.10 in the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles, qualifying for Saturday's finals. The Prairie du Chien, Wis. native will be looking for his third All-American honor at 2:05 p.m.
The Pioneers have LaMere, Valley and Williams competing Saturday as well as sophomore Alyssa Iserman and junior Caitlin Thomson, who will be competing in the high jump, scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
