Track Teams fifth after first day of WIAC Championship
After the first day of the WIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, the UW-Platteville women's team is fifth after eight events and men's team is fifth through seven events on Friday, hosted by UW-Whitewater.
WHITEWATER, Wis. – After the first day of the WIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's team is fifth after eight events and men's team is fifth through seven events on Friday, hosted by UW-Whitewater.
The women's team has scored 28.5 team points, and is behind UW-Whitewater for fourth with 38 points. The men's squad totaled 25.5 team points on the first day, and is also behind UW-Whitewater for fourth with 35 points.
Freshman Amber Williams finished second in the long jump with a leap of 5.57 meters (18-03.25), earning second-team All-WIAC honors.
In the high jump, the Pioneers totaled 13.50 team points. Junior Caitlin Thomson earned honorable mention honors with her third-place finish, clearing 1.69 meters (5-06.50), while Alyssa Iserman finished in fourth. Mary-Katherine Kladar scored 2.50 points as she tied for sixth-place.
Freshman Chelsey Heiden was just 1.25 seconds away from honorable mention honors in the 5,000-meter run as she finished in fourth with a time of 18:28.
Sophomore Ian LaMere finished in second-place in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:32. His time of 14:32 was a season-best and put the Green Bay, Wis. native, 12th on the national list.
Senior Jared Bradfish garnered second team All-WIAC honors by clearing 4.75 meters in the pole vault. Garrett Riggs cleared 4.60 meters to tie for fifth, while Marshall Trajkovski placed in eighth.
The final points of the day came from the distance medley relay team with a fourth-place finish.
Senior T.J. Valley recorded the fastest 60-meter hurdles preliminary time of 8.16, and will be joined by teammates Patrick Kessenich and Austin Lloyd in Saturday's finals.
The second day of the WIAC Championships will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
