Track preforms well despite tough weather conditions at La Crosse
The UW-Platteville track and field teams competed at UW-La Crosse at the Aston May Invitational today. Despite the weather conditions, the Pioneers performed very well.

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The UW-Platteville track and field teams competed at UW-La Crosse at the Aston May Invitational today. Despite the weather conditions, the Pioneers performed very well.
The women's team faced strong competition. Lynea Axelson, a junior from Oregon, Ill., was the lone champion on the women's side winning the 800 meter run in a time of 2:20.60.
Caitlin Thomson, a sophomore from Whitnall, Wis., placed second with a jump of five feet and a quarter inches in the high jump.
Deidre Dillman, a senior from Prairie du Chien, Wis., finished third in the 400 meter dash.
On the men's side, Aaron Hrubes, a senior from Madison, Wis., ran the 100 meter dash in a time of 10.74 seconds.
"Hrubes ran an excellent time today," said head track and field coach Chris Rotzenberg.
Matt Brendemihl, a freshman from Greenfield, Wis., won the triple jump.
T.J. Valley, a junior from Prairie du Chien, Wis., won the 110 high hurdles in a time of 14.69.
Andrew Kissner, a senior from Pewaukee, Wis., won the men's high jump with a mark of six feet two and three quarters of an inch.
"By the men's and women's 200 meter dash, the weather got really bad and rained for the next four hours," said Rotzenberg.
Sophomores Mark Niemann, from Crystal Lake,Ill., and Dan Poh, from Crivitz, Wis., finished first and second in the javelin throw. Neimann threw 200 feet with Poh close behind with 197 feet.
Ben Farrell, a senior from Verona, Wis., finished third in the 400 meter dash in a time of 49.35.
The men's 4x100 meter relay, consisting of Hrubes, Jordan Olp, a senior from Reedsville, Wis.; Casey Goffinet, a senior from Platteville, Wis., and Matt Ziegler, a senior from Madison, Wis., won in a time of 41.69.
"In spite of the conditions, this was a good day for our team," said Rotzenberg.
