UW-Platteville's Ann Tank Named WIAC's NCAA Woman of the Year Nominee
Former University of Wisconsin-Platteville cross country and track & field standout Ann Tank has been named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) nominee for the 2012 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.
Former University of Wisconsin-Platteville cross country and track & field standout Ann Tank has been named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) nominee for the 2012 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.
The NCAA Woman of the Year Award honors graduating student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, service and leadership.
All conference nominees have been forwarded to the NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee that will select the top 10 winners in each division (NCAA Divisions I, II and III). From among those 30 honorees, the selection committee will determine the top three in each division. Finally, the members of the NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics will vote from among the top nine finalists to determine the 2012 NCAA Woman of the Year.
The top 10 honorees and nine finalists from Divisions I, II and III will be honored, and the 2012 NCAA Woman of the Year winner announced, at a dinner in Indianapolis October 14, 2012.
A native of Dodgeville, Wis., Tank majored in physical education with a minor in health/adaptive education and accumulated a 3.73 grade point average. She was named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America® College Division Women's Track/Cross Country Third Team. Tank was recognized on UW-Platteville's Gabe Miller Academic Honor Roll three occasions and earned the 2012 WIAC Judy Kruckman Indoor Track & Field Scholar-Athlete Award. She was a three-time member of the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Team.
On the indoor track, Tank was a four-time All-American, including a second-place finish in the 800-meter run in 2011. She also secured four WIAC titles - two individual and two relay - during her career. On the outdoor circuit, Tank captured four All-America medals, competing on the 1,600-meter relay three years and finishing second in the 800-meter run in 2011. She earned four conference first-place medals - all with relay teams.
Tank served as captain of the cross country squad in 2011 and finished 16th at the conference championship.
She was a member of UW-Platteville's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee from 2010-12 and the Heath and Physical Education Club from 2011-12. She served as a volunteer for Campus Clean-Up and the National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
In order to be eligible for the award, student-athletes must have completed intercollegiate eligibility in her primary sport by the end of the 2011-12 competitive season, received her undergraduate degree prior to the conclusion of the summer 2012 term, and achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.50 (on a 4.00 scale).
