Pioneers Compete at the 2011 Wartburg Select
At the 2011 Wartburg Select in a field of many of the top teams in the area, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men’s track and field team turned in many strong performances.
On the men’s side, the Pioneers' 4x100-meter relay team was just two hundredths of a second shy of posting a NCAA provisional mark with its second-place finish of 41.97. The UW-Platteville mile relay team was fourth in 3:20.31.
Individually, sophomore Aaron Hrubes and freshman Patrick Kessenich were fourth (22.57) and ninth (22.81), respectively in the 200-meter dash. Sophomores Ben Farrell and Matthew Ziegler crossed the line fourth (49.46) and 10th (49.90), respectively in the 400-meter dash.
Sophomore Aaron Loferski was fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (57.12) and sixth in the 110-meter hurdles (15.38). Hrubes was eighth in the 100-meter dash in a time of 10.93, five-hundredths of a second faster than his prelim time. Freshman Ace McCarty was sixth in the high jump, clearing 6-4. Sophomore Chas Spangenberg had a clearance of 14-1 1/4 to finish seventh in the pole vault. Sophomore Preston Baker was ninth in the triple jump (41-7) and in the high jump (6-2). Juniors Patrick Klein and Scott Clark were 10th (4:02.89) and 11th (4:03.84), respectively in the 1,500-meter run.
Next, UW-Platteville will host the UWP Invitational on Saturday, April 9 at the UW-Plattville Outdoor Track and Field Complex.
