CAPE CORAL, Fla. – With a second half record of 5-2, the Pioneer softball team represented well as they concluded their spring break trip to Florida with an 8-6 overall record, and returned home on Saturday.
Following a victory over Wooster on Wednesday morning, the women continued their success conquering Mass.-Dartmouth later that evening 8-5. The next morning the Pioneers took on Alfred State where they had a huge third inning, driving in four runs, and tacking on two more throughout the course of the game, to earn a 6-4 decision.
Unfortunately the winning streak would end that morning as they lost a close 2-1 fight to Manchester. In their second battle against Alfred State, the Pioneers managed to turn the tide at Cape Coral as they ran off with a 3-2 victory, but it was Manchester again who stifled the women's hope for a consecutive win as they were shutout 4-0.
The Pioneers rebounded Saturday morning with a nearly undisputed win over Knox, 9-1, and ended the trip with a 5-2 conquest of WIAC foe UW-Superior. Eight Pioneers managed to get hits against the Yellowjackets in that game.
Weather permitting, the Pioneers will host their first game of the year next Wednesday, April 1 against Beloit College beginning at 3 P.M. at the UW-Platteville Softball Complex.
