Pioneers eliminated for WIAC Tournament
The UW-Platteville softball team was eliminated from the WIAC Championship by UW-La Crosse, as the Eagles setback the Pioneers 6-1 on Friday in Menomonie, Wis.
MENOMONIE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team was eliminated from the WIAC Championship by UW-La Crosse, as the Eagles setback the Pioneers 6-1 on Friday in Menomonie, Wis.
The Pioneers' struggle to score continued in the elimination game. UW-Platteville left nine runners on base and had the bases load with no one out twice and could only push one run across the dish.
A two-out error allowed the Eagles to take a 2-0 lead through one inning of play.
The Pioneers gave UWL an extra out in the third and fourth inning, and the Eagles managed to score a run in each inning to go up 4-0.
Senior Ellyn Goerdt delivered a RBI single to score Katie Huss for the Pioneers only run of the game in the fifth frame.
The Eagles used four hits in the sixth to extend their lead to 6-1.
Senior Becca Lowe and Goerdt accounted for four of the Pioneers six hits. Freshman Jess Butzen took the loss, as she gave up six runs (two earned) on six hits.
The Pioneers end the year with a 16-25 record, and have made the conference tournament two out of the last three seasons.
