Yellowjackets sting Softball twice
The UW-Platteville softball team was swept by UW-Superior, 4-0 and 13-6, on Saturday at the Omni Center.
ONALASKA, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team was swept by UW-Superior, 4-0 and 13-6, on Saturday at the Omni Center.
The Pioneers and the Yelllowjackets played at Onalaska, Wis. because of all the snow in Superior.
GAME ONE: UW-Platteville 0, UW-Superior 4
The Yellowjackets managed to score a run in the first with out recording a hit.
Superior added to its lead in sixth, 4-0, on a three-run home run.
Junior Jeni Freiburger only allowed four hits in six innings of work enduring the loss.
The Pioneer only three hits came from Colleen Lowe, Taylor Ruchti and Ellyn Goerdt.
GAME TWO: UW-Platteville 6, UW-Superior 13
The Yellowjackets got on top of the Pioneers early, scoring five runs in the first inning.
The Pioneers finally got on the board in the third scoring two runs with two-outs, 5-2. Lowe started the two-out rally with a single. Haley Salazar kept it going with a single of her own and they both scored on a RBI single from Goerdt.
The Yellowjackets responded in the bottom half of the third with their own two-out two-run rally, 7-2.
The Pioneers made it a one-run game in the top of the six scoring four runs on four hits. Ruchti led the inning of with a double and scored a batter later on a single from Cassandra Bonin. Lisa Karau came through in the clutch with a pinch hit double to clear the bases and put the Pioneers within a run, 7-6.
Superior answered in a big way in the bottom of the six and put the UW-Platteville away with a six-run inning.
Lowe recorded a perfect 3-for-3 game with two runs while Salazar and Ruchti each tallied two hits apiece.
Melissa Anderson suffered the loss as she gave up 13 hits, 13 runs (11 earned) and five walks.
The Pioneers will return to action on Tuesday when they square off with UW-Whitewater. The twinbill is set for 3 p.m. at Van Stenderen Diamond.
